When Enough is Enough: How to Deal with a Burnout
Most of us have periods in our careers and jobs where we feel stressed, or exhausted, and perhaps wished for something different. But when these feelings escalate over time, burnout may result. We define burnout as a state of complete emotional and physical exhaustion, caused by chronic anxiety, unrelenting stress, or a prolonged lack of returned gratification. The term “professional burnout” really means “emotional burnout” over our jobs and careers.

I pray every single day and some days I get so angry and resentful that she is still alive, she did not make our lives happy when she was all there so to have to quit 2 jobs to take care of her and her affairs has put a bad taste in my mouth and I just want to bury her and be done with it all. I pray my mother dies soon very soon! I am 23 and since I was 13, he has been living with my parents as they are his full time caretakers.
As long as I can remember my parents have been feeding, bathing, brushing teeth, dressing, and moving my grandfather from place to place. His ability to see or speak is gone. He does not recognize any of us and is only responsive to music. Long story short, he has been on the decline for a very long time. My mother has almost forced this onto my dad who loves her too much to ever speak his mind around her since she is so emotionally fragile she will break down. My mom cries constantly and lashes out at my grandfather, and the stress was so intense I think it contributed to her breast cancer diagnosis last year.
My grandfather then went to live with my aunt. Fast forward to today. He chokes on his food and has started to get reoccuring chest infections due to him aspirating it. I thought of this as a blessing because I see it as his way to leave this world in peace and finally be out of his misery. He always told me he never wanted to suffer when it was his time.
How do I deal with burnout at work?
The last two months of the year were spent off work due to burnout. I had been feeling ran down physically and ended up having a lot of symptoms that turned out to be burnout. It was easy to understand why: So, my GP upped my meds, sent me home and I had to find a way of pulling myself out of it. I am not one to think that positive thinking alone can resolve all your problems , especially when the problem is depression or cancer.
But I also knew that I had to take active steps to get better.
I usually suffer burnout after about one month. I have hid / deleted my profile more times then I care to admit. And as far as expectations go, having no expectations is the only sane way to approach online dating.

In my experience, the concept of having a full semester off does not exist. At the end of Spring semester this year, I was still pre-med, and I realized I wanted a doctorate instead. To make matters even more difficult, I have both depression and anxiety, and that certainly makes taking classes harder for me. My continual time on the semester treadmill has lead to a huge burnout. During a full semester, there is no personal time. I took a required electrical engineering class that was at least easier in the summer.
Having that one class as a breather from my other daunting core classes may have made my semester just a little more enjoyable. If others shame you for falling behind or look down upon you for doing so—screw them. Some people may not want to take a semester off because the alternative is worse. Commonly, this alternative is staying at home and having nothing to do in comparison to all the activities, opportunities and experiences you have available while in classes and on campus.

By saying no, we decrease the chances of taking on too much and becoming overwhelmed. We may need to set appropriate boundaries with those who have a tendency to be emotionally draining. When we are emotionally drained it becomes extremely difficult to deal with someone who is emotionally needy. If we give what we have left emotionally to others when we have very little, what are we left with?
Thankfully, there are ways to recover from emotional exhaustion. One way to recover is to remove yourself from the stressor or the stressful event. Once you identify a person or situation as stressful, eliminate it. If you are unable to eliminate the stressor, take time to develop healthier ways to cope. Find moments throughout your day to take a walk, browse the Web, engage in deep breathing, mindfulness activities, or grounding.
Choose or invent whatever will keep you sane. You may also find solace in physical activities such as exercise or yoga.
